Diesel d'Allier, at 6 the youngest horse in a field of 10, took the lead two obstacles from the finish to win Sunday's Glenfarcas Cross Country handicap chase at 3 7-8 miles at Cheltenham.
Ridden for the first time by Charlie Deutsch, Diesel d'Allier (13-2) led a 1-2 finish for French trainer Emmanuel Clayeux, who finished second with 5-1 Urgent de Gregaine, the 166-pound topweight. Diesel d'Allier carried 144 pounds and won by 4 1-2 lengths.
The winning time was 8:44.77 on soft-to-heavy turf. Kingswell Theatre, who was sent off favored, finished fifth after setting the pace for more than three miles.
Diesel d'Allier has won 5 of 15 starts, with the four previous wins in France in 2017 and 2018. Sunday's race ended a five-race losing streak.
