Horses based at Remington Park that were entered in the seven stakes making up the $1 million Land of Enchantment card Nov. 27 at Zia Park will be scratched by the stewards, an official with Zia said Friday. The special program was drawn Tuesday.
The program includes the $250,000 Zia Park Derby - whch will lose Bankit, Sleepy Eyes Todd and Tone Broke to make for a field of seven versus the original 10. The $250,000 Zia Park Oaks will lose Lady Apple.
The New Mexico Racing Commission on Thursday instructed Zia to close its stable area to horses originating from Remington, according to an official with the agency. There was a confirmed case of equine herpesvirus last week at Remington and two more cases were confirmed Thursday. There are two barns under quarantine at Remington, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.
