Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La., is not accepting horses from the Oklahoma tracks Remington Park and Will Rogers Downs, according to Eric Halstrom, vice president of operations for Louisiana Downs. Remington Park has had three confirmed cases of equine herpesvirus since Nov. 12.
"Due to the outbreak of EHV-1 in Oklahoma, as of today and until further notice, Louisiana Downs will not allow horses from Remington Park or Will Rogers Downs to access its grounds," Halstrom said in an email. "Should horsemen have any question regarding this change in policy those inquiries should be directed to Louisiana Downs’ director of racing, David Heitzmann, or stall superintendent, Natalie Ardoin."
Louisiana Downs has operated as a training center since the close of its Thoroughbred meet in September and in January will begin a meet for Quarter Horses. Remington is in the midst of a meet for Thoroughbreds and Will Rogers just wrapped up a meet for Quarter Horses.
