Lone Star Park, Retama Park and Sam Houston Race Park have various shipping policies in place for access to their stable areas, with Retama and Sam Houston announcing procedures Sunday in the wake of three equine herpesvirus positive tests at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Lone Star and Retama are currently operating as training centers, while Sam Houston opens its stable area Dec. 3 in advance of the start of its Thoroughbred meet Jan. 10.
Lone Star, near Dallas, is requiring a 48-hour health certificate on horses fromi Remington, according to Bart Lang, director of racing for Lone Star. He said Lone Star's last scheduled day of training is Dec. 6. The track is housing some horses awaiting to ship into Sam Houston Race Park.
Penn National Gaming announced no horses, including ponies, will be allowed to enter the stable area of its Sam Houston in Houston or Retama near San Antonio if "they are coming from a county with a facility or racetrack that is under quarantine for the EHV-1 equine herpesvirus, or if they are coming from a county adjacent to a county where a quarantine has been issued."
Penn National Gaming also is requiring all horses have a 72-hour health certificate, with some added requirements horsemen should confirm through the racing offices. The policy also in in place for the Penn National Gaming-owned Zia. They will remain in place through at least the end of the quaratine at Remington. If there are no new cases, that date is Dec. 5, according to an official with Remington.
Zia is racing through Dec. 18.
