Aqueduct's Thanksgiving Day card has been canceled due to a forecast that calls for excessive high winds, the New York Racing Association announced late Wednesday afternoon.
According to weather.com, the forecast for Thursday calls for winds between 15 to 25 miles per hour with occasional wind gusts over 40 miles per hour.
However, according to the weather service that NYRA uses, the forecast calls for winds between 42 and 44 miles per hour with gusts above 50 miles per hour.
NYRA officials were still deciding about rescheduling Thursday's three stakes, though Martin Panza, NYRA's senior director of racing operations, said he hopes to run the Fall Highweight on Sunday. The Central Park and Winter Memories, both scheduled for the turf, are not likely to be run until next week.
