About 90 minutes after light rain began to fall, the main track is being sealed. Half of the eight races have been run.
Judging from weather websites, the rain may stop at 3:15 or 3:30 p.m., Pacific.
The main track will be listed as sealed-wet fast.
There is a proposed rule under discussion by the California Horse Racing Board that would ban racing or training on sealed racetracks, but no formal policies have been put in place.
Rain was expected late Friday or early Saturday. Santa Anita announced at 11 a.m. this morning that there will be no training on the main track on Saturday and that the training track will be open for workouts. The main track there will be open for training but not workouts on Sunday morning, weather permitting, according to a text statement.
