Silver Prospector and Shoplifted are candidates for the $150,000 Smarty Jones at Oaklawn, trainer Steve Asmussen told Daily Racing Form's Jay Privman. The race, which carries points for the Kentucky Derby, will be run Jan. 24. The one-mile stakes is the opening day feature. Entries for the card will be taken on Jan. 17, said Oaklawn racing secretary Pat Pope.
Silver Prospector won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes in his last start for owners Ed Orr and Susie Orr.
Shoplifted is coming off a win in the $400,000 Springboard Mile for owners Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables and LNJ Foxwoods. He breezed five-eighths in 1:01.40 on Thursday at Oaklawn.
The Smarty Jones will award its first four finishers points on a sliding scale of 10-4-2-1.
Pope said there were more than 1,200 horses on the grounds as of Friday morning. He said a flight from California was scheduled to bring horses to Arkansas over the weekend.
