Sure, No Parole has only beaten up on age-restricted Louisiana-breds in his first two starts. But man, has he beaten up on them.
After winning a maiden sprint Dec. 15 at Fair Grounds by 14 1/4 lengths, No Parole won a first-level Louisiana-bred allowance race on today's (Jan. 11) card by 13 1/4 lengths. No Parole debuted on a fast track and this time raced over a muddy, sealed strip, going to the front under James Graham like he did in his maiden voyage. There was other speed in this race, and the competition - on paper, at least -- appeared considerably sterner than what No Parole faced first out, but he still totally dominated.
No one could run with No Parole through splits of 21.79 and 45.45, and No Parole really buried his rivals with a fifth furlong in a sparkling 12.06 seconds. Graham eased up on his mount the final 50 yards or so and No Parole, already starting to cool out, stopped the timer in 1:10.24 for six furlongs. This drying out track wasn't producing fast clockings at all, and a race later the accomplished older Louisiana-bred sprinter Monte Man won a much higher level allowance race with a 5 1/2-furlong time of 1:04.71. No Parole got a 91 Beyer Speed Figure in his debut and the number here figures to come back in the same ballpark, perhaps a touch higher, I'd guess.
No Parole is owned by Maggi Moss and trained by Tom Amoss. He's a son of Violence and the Bluegrass Cat mare Plus One, who was a sprinter during her racing career. No Parole's decent full brother, Violent Ways, hasn't raced beyond seven furlongs in his six starts. But No Parole has some scope and a relatively lengthy stride to him, and Amoss has said before that the colt is mentally tuned in.
"I was very impressed," Amoss said in a late Saturday afternoon text message. "Despite a sprint pedigree, he deserves the chance to stretch out to [two[ turns. He wuill run in a two-turn stake next against open company. No decision which one."
