Ruby Bradley, who won the $188,000 Melair Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old fillies last June, won her debut in a claiming race in Monday's second race.
Ruby Bradley ($5.60) won by a half-length over 6-1 Tiz Wonderfully in a $16,000 claimer for fillies and mares who had not won three races. Owned by breeder Nick Alexander and trained by Steve Miyadi, Ruby Bradley has won 2 of 13 starts.
Ruby Bradley won a lowly-rated running of the Melair. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 63.
The complexion of the race changed considerably that day when morning-line favorite Sneaking Out was withdrawn. Sneaking Out was trained at the time by Jerry Hollendorfer, who was informed by track management that morning that he was no longer welcome to start horses at the track after a horse in his care was euthanized because of an injury sustained in a workout.
Ruby Bradley, by Grazen, was winless in six starts following the Fleet Treat Stakes - two races for Phil D'Amato and four starts for Miyadi after was transferred to his stable last summer.
