The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission on Wednesday approved the dates request for the Delaware Park 2020 season.
Delaware will race the same 85 days this year as it did in 2019 but after a one-year experiment has moved back its meet opener to May 27. Last year, Delaware opened on Kentucky Derby Day, May 4, but was troubled by short fields as its turf course was not ready for use during the meet’s first few weeks.
The Delaware season will begin with a Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday schedule. Thursdays will be added from June 18 through Oct. 8. The meet will conclude Oct. 31.
The Grade 2 Delaware Handicap is scheduled for July 11. The Grade 3 Delaware Oaks will be run on the Fourth of July.
