Luis Saez and Chris Landeros were fortunate to walk back to the Gulfstream jockeys' room after STRONG PERFORMANCE, ridden by Saez, broke down leaving the half-mile pole in Race 2, a 6 1/2-furlong race for $25,000 maiden-claiming 3yo fillies on the main track. Landeros, riding favored MILKAH, was unable to avoid the fallen horse and also was dislodged by his mount.
Landeros said on his walk back that he was suffering a headache. Both riders were to undergo further examination on-site by medical personnel.
We are awaiting word on the conditions of both horses involved in the accident, although from an original viewing (no replays are shown) it appeared that Strong Performance may have suffered a catastrophic injury. Only 3 others finished from a field of 5 as TWEET AWAY ROBIN won easily.
