Gold Street ($22.80) picked up 10 points for the Kentucky Derby on Friday, when he won the $150,000 Smarty Jones on the opening day card at Oaklawn. He covered the mile on a sealed track rated muddy in 1:39.63. The race ended at the sixteenth pole. Martin Garcia was aboard for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Gold Street was winning his third straight race, all on wet tracks. Three Technique finished second, Shoplfited was third and Silver Prospector was fourth. Asmussen also trains Shoplifted and Silver Prospector.
