The road to the Grade 3, $700,000 Sunland Park Derby starts Sunday, with the running of the $100,000 Riley Allison Derby. The race is the first of two local preps for the Sunland Derby, which is both a points race for the Kentucky Derby and the richest Thoroughbred race in New Mexico. The second local prep is the $100,000 Mine That Bird Derby on Feb. 23. The Sunland Derby runs March 22.
