Well, you can see why trainer Bret Calhoun told Daily Racing Form that he'd been tempted to enter the 3-year-old filly Ain't No Elmers in the Fair Grounds Oaks, because as good as Ain't No Elmers looked winning her careeer debut Feb. 15, she was meaningfully better beating first-level sprint allowance foes in race 7 today. Granted, Ain't No Elmers was an odds-on favorite here for a reason, and there were no stars behind her, but after leading in her first race, she was held wide and stalking the leaders by jockey Adam Beschizza to get a different experience today. Ain't No Elmers pulled on the bit as Beschizza took his hold but she accepted the rating, cruised up to the top trio at the quarter pole, and just buried this field with a fifth furlong in a glittering 11.29 seconds. This race was over at the furlong grounds and Beschizza already had eased up when Ain't No Elmers jumped back to her right lead after spotting tracks on the surface in the waning stages. She galloped home in 1:10.11 for six furlongs, showing a nice reaching stride that should help this Goldencents filly stay at least a middle distance over a route of ground.
