Cistron closed from third to catch 1-2 favorite Bound for Nowhere in the final strides to win his first start of 2020 in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes at 5 1-2 furlongs on turf.
Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Cistron ($10.80) was timed in 1:02.68, winning by a head. Murad Khan (7-1) finished third in field of seven.
Cistron won the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar last summer, earning a fees-paid berth to the Breeders' Cup Sprint later in the year. Cistron missed the BC Sprint after a minor injury was detected in early October. A 6-year-old horse by The Factor, Cistron races for Pete and Kosta Hronis and trainer John Sadler.
