Los Al: Smith Handicap leads Sunday evening program

The $20,000 James Smith Handicap for 3-year-olds at 350 yards is the top race on an eight-race program at Los Alamitos on Sunday.

First post time is 8 p.m., Eastern, or 5 p.m., Pacific. The Smith Handicap is the last race on the program.

Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

Spring Favorite, who has won his last three starts; Brockmire, a minor stakes winner at Turf Paradise in January; and Up and Coming, a troubled ninth of 10 in the $1.9 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December, are three leading contenders.

Maximo II starts from the outside post for his third start at Los Alamitos. He was the sharp winner of an allowance race at 300 yards on Feb. 16.

Earlier on the program, the first maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds of 2020 at Los Alamitos will be run at 300 yards.

Fly the Coup, purchased for $250,000 at the Ruidoso Yearling Sale last September, is part of a field of seven. Fly the Coup was the most expensive colt of that sale.

The field includes SC Divas Cartel Man, a gelding out of the mare Spit Curl Diva, who was a multiple stakes winner; and El Katie Cartel, who has recorded fast workouts in recent weeks.
