Los Al: Glance at Friday's 2yo maiden races

There are three maiden special weight races at 300 yards for 2-year-olds on Friday's program - the fourth, fifth and seventh races. They are all part of the $2 pick six, which has a carryover of $20,674.

The maiden races drew nine runners each, with 23 first-time starters. Here's a glance at the races, and a few comments from track publicist Orlando Gutierrez who reviewed the 220-yard gate works of the first-time runners.

The fourth race is led by Danjerous (7), who was a game third in her debut on April 19. The first-time starters One Famous Miss (5), Up For You (8), and Cartels Legacy (9) have worked well, notably Up For You who is trained by Scott Willoughby.

One Famous Eagle worked in a group of three on April 21, finishing in 12.5 seconds. Gutierrez noted that One Famous Eagle responded well under urging midway through the workout.

On April 14, Up For You showed "nice acceleration and good energy to the wire," winning her workout by three lengths in 12.3 seconds, Gutierrez wrote.

Cartels Legacy was timed in 12.3 seconds on April 21. She "broke beautifully" and finished nicely with the second of 16 workouts at the distance, Gutierrez wrote.

All of the runners in the fifth race are first-time starters. Kindly Cartel (5) and Thats R Best Card (9) are expected to lead the betting.

AJS On Time (2) was bought for $100,000 at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale last October. He worked "powerfully" and had a sharp gallop out in 12.5 seconds on April 16, Gutierrez wrote.

Kindly Cartel was timed in 12.3 seconds on April 14. Kindly Cartel left the gate sharply, and like an arrow, while never being asked, according to Gutierrez. Kindly Cartel was hand-ridden to the wire, displaying a smooth stride.

Thats R Best Card worked 12.4 seconds on April 16. He brushed the side of the gate and needed a few strides to gain footing. He overcame that mishap to win the two-horse workout by a head with the fifth-fastest of 40 works at the distance.

The first-time starters Fractional Interest (1), Million Bound (4), Constituent (6) and High Rock Teller (9) are likely to force multi-race bettors into a wide approach to the seventh race.

Fractional Interest worked 12.5 seconds on April 25, drawing away from a rival by three lengths and finding his best stride 75 yards from the finish, Gutierrez wrote.

Million Bound worked 12.3 seconds on April 14, the same time as the promising filly Favorite Fire, who finished slightly in front.

Constituent worked 12.3 seconds on Apirl 14, as well. Constituent was "a bit fidgety in the gate," but took and early. "He showed a powerful stride and separated from his competition while doing the work on his own," Gutierrez wrote. The time was the fourth of 47 works at the distance.

High Rock Teller was timed in 12.5 seconds on April 4. He outworked Special Royal Eagle, who starts in Friday's fifth race.

First post time at Los Al is 9 p.m., Eastern, or 6 p.m., Pacific. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
