Have you noticed the number of longshot winners sired by Clubhouse Ride? They include Warren’s Showtime ($72), Avalon Ride ($64.20), Leading Indicator ($21.40), Megan Marie ($37.80) and Speedy Ride ($43.60).
Prior to this week, Clubhouse Ride progeny won 46 of 238 starts. A $2 win bet on each starter would have produced a profit of $158.40 ($2.66 ROI). The problem with “betting angles” is most are backdated. But you wonder. A 19 percent win rate from starters is above average. Perhaps longshots by Clubhouse Ride will generate profit moving forward. Or maybe not. Either way, it might be a fun angle to monitor.
In the eighth race Friday at Santa Anita, the stallion angle reappears. Avalon Ride (7), upset winner of Cal-bred turf allowance last out, is listed at 12-1 moving to open company. Based on conventional handicapping, Avalon Ride is in tough against favorite Quick (1). But there is nothing conventional about Clubhouse Ride progeny, who have repeatedly outrun their odds. Who knows? Avalon Ride might be another.
