Ten more on Thursday at Belmont, led by the $80k Tiller, which pulled a graded stakes-quality field going 11 furlongs on turf. That race is led by Sadler's Joy, who has held his form over a long series of races and has been near the top of this longer-distance turf division dating all the way back to 2017. I wanted to try Standard Deviation against him as he appears to have plenty of potential and showed - at least in my opinion - that he can get a distance when rallying stoutly behind a front-running winner last time.
The 8th is an excellent n1x allowance for 3yos with several well-connected and talented colts in the mix. I am a fan of Country Grammer's and am looking forward to seeing his return but prefer Mystic Guide in this spot, though we'll see what kind of price he settles at.
Some other spots:
I want to try Unbridled John in the 2nd. He was chasing a fast pace last time, before tiring behind an impressive debut winner, and gets needed class relief for this. Bruce Brown has excellent numbers with horses like this - first after a trainer change, dirt, sprint, maiden claiming: 5 for his last 11, 45%, $10.53 ROI.
Race 5 is a solid race set for seven furlongs on the turf and I like Madeline Must making her stateside debut for Christophe Clement. she was getting good last year in France, coming close in a stakes race following her easy maiden win and then winning a stakes race shortly thereafter with a strong last-to-first move. This is a tough race so I wouldn't take any kind of short price on her.
Good luck! First post coming up at 1:15 ET.
