After a parade of longshots lit up the tote board on Thursday at Belmont Park, there will be a late pick-5 carryover of $327,647 into Friday's card. The late pick-5 will be on races 6 through 10 (starting at 4 p.m. Eastern).
Thursday's sequence started innocently enough when A d'Oro ($10) won a maiden claiming race. But then Riken ($52.50) and Tap It to Win ($14.40) recorded front-running upsets on dirt followed by bombs Paret ($78.50) and Hunnybunnerdini ($97) on the turf to complete the card.
Hunnybunnerdini, a first-time starter by Alpha trained by John Morrison, held off favored Snicket. Had Snicket won, not only would the pick-5 have been hit, but there would have been one unique ticket sold on the Empire 6 (worth $159K) just two days before there is to be a mandatory payout in that bet.
There is a $78,246 Empire 6 carryover into Friday's card.
There are two dirt races and three turf races in the late pick-5 sequence.
According to The Weather Channel, isolated thunderstorms are forecast for the morning that could become more widespread through the afternoon. The sequence includes the $80,000 Harmony Lodge Stakes for female sprinters topped by the five-time listed stakes winner Chalon and two-time listed winner Mother Mother.
