The annual Track Superintendents Field Day event that was to take place Sept. 14-16 at Remington Park has been rescheduled for March 2021, according to a press release issued Monday. The more than 20-year-old rotating event will still be held at Remington. The new date is due to the coronavirus pandemic. There were more than 100 participants in last year's Field Day at Charles Town.
“Every track superintendent takes safety seriously, so in light of the current health situation and with many tracks’ racing schedules in flux, we made the decision to postpone the Field Day,” Roy Smith, the event co-founder and the track superintendent at Indiana Grand, said in the press release.
Steve Andersen, founder of title sponser Equine Equipment, is looking forward to the event in 2021.
"The Track Superintendents Field Day is all about the best practices related to safety for all of the horse world’s participants,” Andersen said in the release. “Our equine and human athletes rely on the skill and expertise these dedicated professionals have acquired and honed throughout their career. This event is vital to our industry, so to miss the 2020 gathering is a shame but we shall rise again and look forward to a spectacular 2021 event.”
Bob Blackburn is the track superintendent at host site Remington Park.
“We are looking forward to hosting the group,” Blackburn said in the release. “While I am disappointed that we have to delay this great event, it is the prudent course to take. Everyone at Remington Park is excited to show all the superintendents what Oklahoma hospitality is all about.”
