Dr. Schivel, third and second in maiden special weight races at Santa Anita and Los Alamitos earlier this summer, rallied to score an impressive win in a similar race at Del Mar on Saturday, finishing 5 3-4 lengths in front of 4-5 favorite Spielberg.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Spielberg was purchased for $1 million at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and his much-anticipated career debut on Saturday.

Dr. Schivel, trained by Luis Mendez, races for owners and breeders William Branch and Arnold Hill.

Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Dr. Schivel ($14.20) ran six furlongs in 1:10.49, a quick time at Del Mar on Saturday. Earlier on the program, Weston won the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes for 2-year-olds, running six furlongs in 1:12.72.

Dr. Schivel, by Violence, had worked quickly at Del Mar in recent weeks, including a half-mile in 46.20 seconds on Monday.
