Jockey Brice Blanc has been diagnosed with "a couple of broken ribs" after he was involved in a one-horse spill in the eighth race at Del Mar on Monday, according to his agent, George Bradvica.

Blanc was taken to a local hospital and will be kept overnight for observation, Bradvica said early Monday evening.

Blanc was aboard Great Power who appeared to clip heels while racing in tight quarters on the turn of an optional claimer at 1 1-16 miles on turf. Blanc was taken from the track on a stretcher.

Trainer Simon Callaghan said Great Power was not injured and was vanned to his stable.
