Improbable is rock-solid and early favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Maximum Security, cooked in a pace duel, finished a distant second.

Princess Noor = 78 winning G2 Chandelier for 2yo fillies, which is the lowest winning fig in this route stakes for 2yo fillies. Glass half-full: she won by more than nine lengths in her first route, surprisingly rallying from off the pace. Based on figs, Princess Noor would be tough to back at low odds in the BC Juvenile Fillies.

Get Her Number = 84 winning G1 American Pharoah, local prep for BC Juvenile, perfect trip pressing slow fractions. The runner-up Rombauer ran as well as the winner, rallying from last to miss by less than a length. Certainly no superstars among California 2yo males this year.

United = 103 gate to wire in G2 John Henry, mile and quarter on turf. One-paced gelding popped gate, slowed down pace, strong to the wire. Not much behind him, and BC Turf probably will be tougher, but uncertain if BC will include much European influence in this strange year.

Mucho Unusual = 94 gate to wire in G1 Rodeo Drive, mile and quarter for fillies and mares on turf. California-bred earned berth in BC Filly & Mare Turf, but barring another easy lead at Keeneland, a BC win would be a surprise.

Amanzi Yimpilo = Beyer fig for $100k Speakeasy Stakes, turf sprint for 2yos, not available as of Sunday morning. A filly facing the boys, which is no big deal, she won by a head to earn berth in BC Juvenile Turf Sprint. Suspect others elsewhere are better.

Sunday stakes at SA include G2 Zenyatta (race 4) for fillies and mares in which Fighting Mad is odds-on, and G1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship (race 8) topped by C Z Rocket and Collusion Illusion.
