Delta Downs in Vinton, La., has requested opening its Thoroughbred meet Nov. 24 and racing 79 dates through April 8, according to a notice from the Louisiana Racing Commission. The amended dates request will be heard at an emergency meeting Wednesday.
Delta postponed the start of its meet indefinitely after its facility received damage during Hurricane Laura.
The track has asked to race mostly on a Monday through Thursday schedule, with a daytime post of 12:55 p.m. Central. The track is seeking approval for 22 stakes races, includnig its traditional Louisiana Premier program of stakes for horses bred in Louisiana.
The original meet was scheduled for 84 dates from Oct. 6-Feb. 27.
On the same agenda for Wednesday, there is a request by some horsemen to transfer purse money and dates from Delta to Louisiana Downs, which just wrapped up its meet last Saturday. According to a letter in the agenda, Louisiana Downs is open to hosting a 12-date meet from Oct. 26-Nov. 12, racing Monday through Thursday with a first post of 1:35 p.m. Central.
Also on the agenda, Churchill Downs has requseted the ability to ban the use of Lasix for its major 3-year-old stakes: the Louisiana Derby, Fair Grounds Oaks, Risen Star, Rachel Alexandra, Lecomte and Silverbulletday. Fair Grounds is seeking a 76-date meet opening Nov. 26 and running through March 28.
