Delta Downs in Vinton, La., was forced to delay the start of its 84-date Thoroughbred meet to Nov. 24 due to damage caused by Hurricane Laura, and late Wednesday officials announced it's post time and stakes schedule. First post will be 12:55 p.m. Central during the meet, which will conduct racing on a Monday through Thursday schedule through April 16.
Delta last meet raced from October to the end of February, putting on night cards. But the storm damaged the lighting system at the track, so there will be daytime racing for the upcoming season. Horses were able to start moving onto the grounds Monday.
Delta's stakes schedule will feature 22 stakes worth a total of $1.7 million, according to the press release. Louisiana Premier Night is set for Feb. 10. It will be the richest card of the meet at Delta.
The stakes calendar will include the Delta Mile, which is the target for a notable runner based in Louisiana.
