Jockey Francisco Arrieta will be riding at the Oaklawn Park meet that opens in January, said Jay Fedor, who will represent the rider at the Hot Springs, Ark., track. Arrietta is currently riding at Fair Grounds and is due at Oaklawn sometime after Christmas. The meet opens Jan. 22.
"He's a young rising star," said Fedor, who through the years has brought a number of top riders to Oaklawn.
Arrieta has been on a strong run the last three years. He won 186 races from 808 mounts in 2018, for a 23 percent win clip, according to records from Daily Racing Form. The next year, Arrieta went 251-for-962 for a 26 percent strike rate, among his 2019 titles Canterbury and Zia Park. This year, Arrieta has gone 159 from 699 mounts for a 22 percent win rate. He had been leading the standings at Sunland Park in March before that track was forced to close due to the pandemic, and before heading to Canterbury spent some time racking up the wins at Fonner Park.
Fedor also will represent Joe Rocco, Jr., at Oaklawn.
