Senor Buscador ($9.80) closed with authority to win the $200,000 Springboard Mile in his second career start Friday night at Remington Park. Cowan finished five and three-quarter lengths back in second, while Red N Wild was third and Saffa's Day, fourth.
The Springboard Mile was a Kentucky Derby points race and the lone horse from the first four finishers eligible for Kentucky Derby points is Cowan, who earned 4. Of the first four finishers, Cowan is the lone horse who did not race on Lasix, according to the overnight. Horses in Kentucky Derby points races who race on Lasix are not eligible for qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby, which will be run Lasix-free in 2021.
Luis Quinonez rode Senor Buscador for Joe Peacock, Jr., and trainer Todd Fincher, the same owner and trainer connections as the horse's half-brother, Grade 3 Sunland Park Derby winner Runaway Ghost.
Senor Buscador, who is by Mineshaft, closed from well back for a clear win Friday and covered the mile on a fast track in 1:37.87. He won his debut in a maiden special weight over five and a half furlongs last month at Remington.
