Hozier and Fenway, who were well-beaten in their first starts in January at low odds, rebounded to finish first and second in a maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds at 1 1-16 miles for trainer Bob Baffert in Monday's sixth race.
Fenway (3-1) set the pace and led into the stretch before Hozier ($7.60) took the lead in the final furlong, winning by 1 3-4 lengths in 1:44.64. Star Sailor, the 8-5 favorite, finished third in the field of six.
Hozier, a colt by Pioneerof the Nile purchased for $625,000 as a yearling, was a well-beaten fourth in his first start in a maiden special weight race at six furlongs on Jan. 15. Fenway, a colt by Into Mischief bought for $650,000 as a yearling, was last of four in a maiden special weight race at a mile in his debut on Jan. 23.
