Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La., which is in the midst of a meet for Quarter Horses, has canceled racing from Saturday through Tuesday, according to a press release. The cancellation is weather-related, a result of the winter storm system that has gripped the region.
"This has been a tremendously challenging time for our racing program, and we know how greatly it has impacted our horsemen,” David Heitzmann, director of racing for Louisiana Downs, said in a press release. "Safety for our horses and jockeys is the most important goal. Be assured that track superintendent Billy McKeever and his crew are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of our racing surface."
The storm also led to the cancellation of racing Feb. 13-15. Louisiana Downs plans to announce plans for additional races at a later date, according to the press release.
