Champion Monomoy Girl, who started her season Sunday with a win in the Grade 3, $250,000 Bayakoa at Oaklawn, was in good order Monday, according to her trainer, Brad Cox.
"Really good," he said. "She looked great this morning."
Cox said the plan remains for Monomoy Girl to target the Grade 1, $1 million Apple Blossom on April 17 at Oaklawn.
Monomoy Girl was one of two champions Cox brought out for their seasonal debuts this weekend. Essential Quality, the champion male 2-year-old of 2020, won his first start at 3 in the Grade 3, $750,000 Southwest Stakes on Saturday. The horse has continued to emerge from the race in fine fashion, while a decision on his next start is still being determined, Cox said Monday.
Monomoy Girl was the champion older female of 2020. For her effort in the Bayakoa, she earned a preliminary Beyer Speed Figure of 96.
