Turf or dirt, it does not matter. Rock Your World wins.

After recording victories in his first two starts on turf, Rock Your World led throughout Saturday's Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby to win his dirt debut and secure a berth in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 1.

Rock Your World ($12.40) was timed in 1:49.17 for 1 1-8 miles and led through an early pace of 22.42 seconds for the opening quarter-mile, and 46.11 for a half-mile. Ridden by Umberto Rispoli, Rock Your World finished 4 1-4 lengths in front of 4-5 favorite Medina Spirit, who raced three wide for much of the race. 

Dream Shake (9-2) stalked the pace and finished third, beaten 6 1-2 lengths. Defunded finished fourth, followed by Law Professor, Parnelli, The Great One, Back Ring Luck and Ottothelegend.

Rock Your World won his debut in a maiden special weight race at six furlongs on turf on Jan. 1 and won his stakes debut in the Pasadena Stakes at a mile on turf on Feb. 27. A colt by Candy Ride, Rock Your World is owned by Pete and Kosta Hronis and Talla Racing and trained by Jon Sadler.
