In preparation for the Belmont Stakes on June 5, Hot Rod Charlie worked five furlongs in 1:00.48 before the first race at Santa Anita on Friday.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Hot Rod Charlie set fractions of 24.06 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 48.32 for a half-mile. Hot Rod Charlie galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.62.
Hot Rod Charlie won the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds in March and was third in the Kentucky Derby on May 1.
