Thrilling, a well-bred 3-year-old filly, won Monday's fifth race in her career debut, a maiden special weight race for fillies and mares at 6 1-2 furlongs on turf, giving jockey Trevor McCarthy his first career win in California.
McCarthy recently relocated from New York and began riding at Santa Anita on Friday.
Thrilling is trained by Michael McCarthy, who is no relation to the jockey. Michael McCarthy trains Rombauer, the winner of the Preakness Stakes on May 15 and a leading candidate in Saturday's Belmont Stakes.
Thrilling, owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, is by Uncle Mo and is out of Together, the Irish-bred winner of the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland in her final start in 2011.
