The New York Racing Association on Tuesday announced a purse increase for the upcoming meet at Saratoga, which opens July 15. The season runs through Sept. 6.
The increase boosts the value of maiden special weight races for open company to $100,000, from the previous purse of $90,000, according to the press release. Maiden allowances for New York-breds will be worth $85,000, an increase of $5,000. In addition, the NYRA Maiden Allowance Auction Series will be back, with races restricted to horses that sold, or failed to reach a reserve, of $45,000 or less at the most recent auction in which they participated. The purse will be $80,000, up $5,000.
Saratoga's open company stakes previously worth $100,000 will now carry a purse of $120,000.
“We look forward to welcoming horsemen from across the country back to Saratoga,” Keith Doleshel, racing secretary for Saratoga, said in the release. "The purse increases across the board should help make the 2021 season a summer full of the competitive racing that Saratoga is known for.”
There are also increases to a number of allowance conditions and optional claiming conditions.
