Jockeys Alexis Centeno and Trevor McCarthy were released from a Long Beach, Calif. hospital Sunday evening after undergoing precautionary tests following a two-horse spill shortly after the start of the fourth race at Los Alamitos.
McCarthy and Centeno are expected to resume riding on Friday, the next day of racing at Los Alamitos.
Sherlock, ridden by Centeno, drifted in sharply a few strides away from the gate of a five-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds, colliding with Creative Peak, who was ridden by McCarthy. Both jockeys were unseated.
Both horses ran off and were eventually taken to the stables.
The jockeys were taken by track ambulance crews to the parking lot where they transferred to the care of local paramedics, who conducted examinations before proceeding to the hospital.
