Medina Spirit, who finished first in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 1 but later tested positive for a banned medication, has been entered in Sunday's Grade 3 Shared Belief Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile at Del Mar, the colt's first start of the summer.
Trained by Bob Baffert for Amr Zedan, Medina Spirit has not started since a third in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 15. Medina Spirit was supplemented to the Shared Belief Stakes for $1,000, but his presence in the field has been widely expected for days.
John Velazquez has the mount.
After the Kentucky Derby, Medina Spirit showed the presence of betamethasone. The positive finding remains the subject of court proceedings.
The $100,000 Shared Belief is a prep for the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on Sept. 25, Baffert told Del Mar publicity.
The Shared Belief drew a field of six, including Rock Your World, the winner of the Santa Anita Derby in April who has not raced since a sixth-place finish in the Belmont Stakes in June.
