War Heroine scored a front-running victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 San Clemente Stakes for 3-year-old turf fillies on Saturday at Del Mar, just lasting over the fast-finishing Ollie's Candy, who had to overcome the outside draw in the field of 13. Ms Bad Behavior was a close third.
War Heroine, off at 5-1, completed one mile on the firm course in 1:34.90 to earn her first graded stakes victory and her first win going two turns. She was a winner against older females in a downhill turf sprint earlier this year on April 29 at Santa Anita, which was her last start prior to the San Clemente.
Tyler Baze rode War Heroine for trainer Peter Miller. The daughter of Lonhro is owned by Gary Barber. She has now won four times in six starts.
