Trainer Bill McLean needed more than 20 years to win for the first time at Del Mar, doing so on Wednesday with the 31-1 shot Clean Living.
Clean Living was McLean's 18th career starter at Del Mar. He had runners in the 1990s, but did not have another starter until earlier this decade.
This summer, McLean has six horses at Del Mar. He has a fine chance to win a maiden claimer for California-bred 2-year-olds in the fifth race with Oh Man (8).
Oh Man, who will be ridden by the red-hot apprentice jockey Evin Roman, was second and third in starts at Golden Gate Fields and the Oak Tree at Pleasanton meting in the last two months.
Oh Man was the 6-5 favorite in early betting. The race lacked a clear second choice, although there is support for Rocky Rogue (10) at 6-1.
