Mr. Hinx ($11) won his second stakes for California-bred sprinters this year in Friday's $150,000 Real Good Deal Stakes for 3-year-olds.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Mr. Hinx disputed the pace through an opening quarter-mile in 22.42 seconds and held off a sustained threat from even-money favorite Ann Arbor Eddie to win by a half-length. Edwards Going Left (7-2) finished 1 1-2 lengths behind Ann Arbor Eddie after a troubled trip in which he raced behind runners at pivotal times on the turn and in the stretch.
Mr. Hinx ran seven furlongs in 1:22.79. Owned by breeder Gary Barber, Mr. Hinx is trained by Steve Miyadi. Mr. Hinx has won 5 of 8 starts and earned $331,048. He won the Echo Eddie Stakes for Cal-bred 3-year-old sprinters at Santa Anita in April.
