Tatters to Riches, bought for $1 million as a 2-year-old in April, won his debut in fine style in Saturday's first race for maidens at six furlongs.
Ridden by Tyler Baze, Tatters to Riches ($3.20) disputed the pace throughout and won by 1 1-4 lengths over Jungle Warfare, the only horse in the field of six who had race experience.
Tatters to Riches was timed in 1:11.33. Trained by Jeff Mullins, Tatters to Riches is ownes by Red Barons Barn and Rancho Temescal. Mullins said Tatters to Riches will make his next start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at seven furlongs on Sept. 4, the closing day feature of the meeting.
