Del Mar: Bolt d'Oro wins debut, bound for G1 Futurity

Bolt d'Oro ($3.60) lived up to expectations with a convincing win by 2 1-4 lengths in a maiden race for 2-year-olds at Del Mar on Saturday.

The win left owner and trainer Mick Ruis planning a start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at seven furlongs on Sept. 4.

Bought for $630,000 at the 2016 Saratoga Yearling Sale, Bolt d'Oro beat maidens by 2 1-4 lengths. Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Bolt d'Oro fought his way to a stalking position on the backstretch and took the lead leaving the turn.

Bank Walker finished second, followed by Runaway Saturday, who had a dreadful stumble at the start.

Bolt d'Oro, by Medaglia d'Oro, was timed in 1:17.92. Comparatively, Spectator won the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies in the preceding race in 1:17.66 for 6 1-2 furlongs.
