Desert Steel, who was withdrawn from Friday's Daisycutter Handicap because of a bout with colic, was back in trainer Simon Callaghan's stable over the weekend, having spent a few days at a local veterinary clinic.
Callaghan, who won Saturday's Grade 1 Test Stakes at Saratoga with American Gal, said Desert Steel did not need an operation for colic, and was kept at the clinic as a precaution.
Callaghan said Desert Steel could start before the end of the Del Mar summer meeting on Sept. 4.
