Maraud, who just won the second race in decisive fashion, might be a good one if for no other reason than he scored for trainer Todd Pletcher as a 2-year-old making his debut going a route of ground on the turf at Saratoga.
For all Pletcher does brilliantly - and that list is very long - winning with 2-year-olds making their first starts going long on the turf at Saratoga is not one of his strengths. According to DRF Formulator, Pletcher had 29 such starters before Maraud over the last five years, and only two of them won.
So, Maraud, who looked good from at least a visual standpoint, might be even better than you might think considering he overcame an unusual soft spot in his trainer's game.
