Coils Gold ($8.20) won for the second time in his career in an allowance race for California-breds in Saturday's fourth race, the first win for trainer Bob Baffert at Del Mar since Aug. 23, a span of 11 races.
Baffert could be at the start of a winning streak.
In the fifth race, he runs Solomini (9), a first-time starter in a maiden race for 2-year-olds. By Curlin, Solomini starts in what is the weaker of two maiden races at 6 1-2 furlongs this afternoon.
Solomini, bought for $270,000 at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, is 9-5 in early betting, a slight choice over Holy Ghost (1) and Bahamian (6), who were both fourth in their first starts and are 7-2 with 16 minutes to post.
Solomini will be ridden by Flavien Prat. The colt has shown quick workouts from the gate at Los Alamitos in August before joining Baffert's Del Mar stable at the end of the month.
