Jockey Norberto Arroyo, Jr. left the jockey's room at Del Mar after Saturday's sixth race, telling his valet that he had an emergency. Arroyo did not contact jockey's room officials or track stewards, according to steward Grant Baker.
"He left," Baker said. "His valet informed racing officials in the jockey's room that (Arroyo) had an emergency and had to go. That's all we know."
Arroyo is scheduled to meet with track stewards before Sunday's program to discuss his departure. The rider is likely to face a sanction, perhaps a fine, for not following protocol before departing.
Arroyo had one more mount on Saturday's card. In the eighth race, he has been replaced on Restrainedvengence (7) by Martin Pedroza.
