Moonshine Memories will leave Del Mar as the leading 2-year-old filly in California.
In Saturday's Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, Moonshine Memories ($13.40) led throughout the seven-furlong race, holding off a late run from 18-1 Piedi Bianchi to win by a half-length. The previously unbeaten Spectator, who won the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at 6 1-2 furlongs on Aug. 5, finished third as the 2-1 second choice, beaten 5 3-4 lengths.
Dancing Belle finished fourth, followed by Just a Smidge, Poetic and Gabrieleelizabeth. Just a Smidge was the 9-5 favorite.
Moonshine Memories, who was ridden by Flavien Prat, was timed in 1:23.61. The Del Mar Debutante was the top race of the track's summer meeting, which ends on Monday.
Trained by Simon Callaghan, Moonshine Memories won her debut in a six-furlong race here on Aug. 19.
By Malibu Moon, Moonshine Memories is owned by Bridlewood Farm, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Sue Magnier. The filly was purchased for $650,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale.
