Peppered proved to be one of the more impressive 2yo maiden breakers of the meet when he romped second-time out by seven lengths, in a mile and 70-yard maiden special. The Reade Baker-trained son of Tapizar looks like a serious contender for the G3 Grey Stakes here Oct. 1.

The old Mark Casse angle of backing the longer price of his two entrants clicked in the $104K Ontario Debutante Stakes, which was won by the debuting 5-1 shot Shamrock Rose. The favored Casse charge, Sly Roxy, faded to fourth after leading the way in the six-furlong dash for 2yo fillies. Shady Well stakes winner Glamanation ran second at 6-1 in the five-horse affair.

Nobody won the Jackpot Hi 5 outright, and the carryover heading into Sunday is nearly $1.375 million.
