It couldn't be a nicer day here at Kentucky Downs, where the fourth card of the meet will get under way at 1:25 pm. CT. Unfortunately for KD aficianados, this is probably closing day, since the fifth and final card scheduled for Thursday appears highly likely to be scrapped with the nasty aftermath of Hurricane Irma on its way to this region. Churchill Downs starts its 11-day meet Friday, and there's no room for a makeup date anywhere on the Ky. racing calendar. We'll keep everyone abreast as to that probable Thursday cancellation in due course.
Meanwhile, there's another terrific card on tap here for today, with 2 stakes, 3 starters, 3 MSWs, and 2 allowances to run. It'll be sunny all day, with the high temp reaching 75. There's no humidity, a slight breeze, and a firm turf. Just perfect.
Yesterday was quite the eventful day here, with MISS TEMPLE CITY getting in a perfect prep for her next start at Keeneland. The 5yo mare got a 96 Beyer in winning the Ky. Downs Ladies Turf, and trainer Graham Motion was all smiles afterward. Other winning BSFs: LULL (KD Ladies Sprint), 91; HOGY (KD Turf Sprint), 96; OSCAR NOMINATED (Ky. Turf Cup), 98. Keep in mind that this figure-keeping is all an inexact science, given that races are hand-timed here at KD. As you probably have heard by now, KD absolutely crushed its prior record for all-sources handle when nearly $8.5 million poured through the betting windows on the 10-race card. Wow indeed.
The Jockey7 Wager is in play again today with races 4-10. If you're disappointed in its paltry handle and painfully difficult execution, you're not alone. Nonetheless, if you are somehow able to get down a bet it, it does achieve its goal of being interesting and different.
