Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap winner World Approval is the early 3-2 favorite for the upcoming Grade 1, $800,000 Woodbine Mile. The race offers a fees-paid berth to the Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar in early November.
World Approval will look to give trainer Mark Casse his second consecutive Woodbine Mile win after taking the race last year with Tepin. World Approval cut back in distance in the Fourstardave and Casse said earlier this week he is hoping World Approval can sit just off the lead.
Lancaster Bomber could be the pace threat as one of two horses in the race for trainer Aidan O'Brien. Lancaster Bomber has set up his stablemate Churchill in a couple of races earlier this year, but ran well himself in the Group 1 St. James's Palace Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting in June. He could take the field all the way and gets a significant weight allowance as a 3-year old facing older foes. He's currently 6-1.
O'Brien's other charge is Deauville, who is the 7-2 second choice. Deauville faced top European miler Ribchester at Royal Ascot in June and comes into this spot off of a third-place finish in the Arlington Million. The cutback in distance could be to his liking.
Local favorite Tower of Texas could be good value at 10-1. He ran second to Tepin last year and comes into the race off of a pair of troubled trips. With some pace up front, he could come with a big late run.
2015 Woodbine Mile winner Mondialiste is also currently 10-1 on the tote board.
